“Around The Way Girl’’ is Taraji P. Henson’s newest project that details the life of the Academy Award-nominated actress, chronicling her time in an abusive relationship and getting pregnant while still in college at Howard University. Henson writes about family, friends, the hustle required to make it from DC to Hollywood and the joy of living in yiur own truth.
She recently told the “Tom Joyner Morning Show’’ why she decided to share her life story and “Hidden Figures,’’ her new film in theaters in January.
According to her, this story was much needed. It was her fans wish that her story should be known to everyone. They regards the story as an inspirational one and wanted her to write a book on it.
Taraji P. Henson’s family life is explored in the book. Henson writes about her family, the one she was born into and the one she created. She shares stories of her father, a Vietnam vet who was bowed but never broken by life’s challenges, and of her mother who survived violence both in the home and on D.C.’s volatile streets.
The book also highlights one of her wonderful experiences as a single mother and she considered it as a gift.
